Dear Alice,

 

I am writing to apologize for what I said at lunch yesterday. I was way out of line talking about your sales performance during the last quarter. I certainly shouldn’t have said anything in front of our colleagues. You rightly pointed out that I am not your manager.

 

In my mind, I was trying to make a point about overall sales, but that is no excuse. My actions were unacceptable, and I hope you can forgive me. I can assure you that it won’t happen again. I hope we can move beyond this.

 

Again, you have my apology.
