*You can use phrases with -ing verbs to add more information to a sentence. They are similar to relative clauses that start with words like who, that and which, but they are shorter. Look at the example:
The leaders meeting in New York signed an economic agreement.
*As a relative clause, it would look like this:
The leaders who were meeting in New York signed an economic agreement.
*Phrases with -ing verbs can identify the thing we are talking about. In this example, we are talking not just about leaders, but leaders who want to be effective:
Leaders wanting to be effective should be empathetic.
