※ Comparisons with 'as ... as'

*Use as + adjective + as to say two things are or are not equal in some way.

He wasn't as embarrassed as I was.

 

 

*Comparisons with 'as … as' can also be modified with adverbs or adverbial phrases.

The situation was not nearly as awkward as I had feared.

Her comments were nowhere near as offensive as she thought they were.

His apology was not quite as sincere as I had hoped it would be.

-far from; not at all

: 결코 …가 아니게[…와는 아주 동떨어지게]

e.g.)

The job doesn't pay anywhere near enough for me.

                               그 직장은 보수가 결코 내게 충분하지 못하다.

Older cars are nowhere near as fuel-efficient as modern cars.

 

 

 

He wasn't anywhere as convincing as he needed to be.

Her apology wasn't quite as sincere as I'd hoped.

He was easily as offensive as we'd expected him to be.
